"HOW DO YOU WASH YOUR BRA?" We always end our Bratology Session with this question and guess what? A lot of ladies admitted that they will just throw it in the washing machine even though they knew that it doesn't do good for the bra's life span. We totally understand that with so much else to worry about in our day-to-day, who would have time to devote to their delicates? But, as the Bra Fitting Specialist, we are also well aware that washing the bra correctly is very important and hand wash is the only method that we would recommend.
Hand-washing is definitely the BEST WAY to keep your bras stays in good shape. Oops! We saw a lot of them mid-eye-rolling there. Chill ladies, let us rest assured you that this is actually A LOT EASIER than you think because you can do it while showering!
Before you start showering, soak your bra in a bucket that fills with soap water (use delicate detergent mixed with water) for 15 mins. Kindly ensure that you’ve hooked your bra together before putting it into the bucket to avoid the hook snag on the lace and spoil it. Once you have done showering, just take the bra out from the bucket and gently rub on areas that often come into contact with sweat which is the band and straps. Rinse out your bra after this.
Here comes a very important reminder, NEVER EVER squeeze your bra cup as if you’re squeezing lemon while making lemon water. All you need to do is just hold your fist, place the bra cup on top of your fist, then gently press it.
We do not encourage you to do so but this would make us happy because our monthly sales will shoot up significantly. (Haha!)
Why this may not be the ideal way? Because when the washing machine spin, it will generate heat which considered as the biggest enemy to our bra as it can break down the particles in the spandex/powernet causing the bra band to lose its elasticity in a very short period of time.
That’s why, the most important step that you need to remember is to put your bra into a mesh lingerie bag before happily throwing it into the washing machine and MUST choose hand-wash function, this is to minimize the damage on the bras.
As mentioned above, heat is the main cause that spoiled your bra hence, don’t ever hang your bra under direct sunlight. Ok, now let’s see how should we hang it! The most common way is to drape the bra by the middle over a clothesline or a drying rack, but some ladies will hang it by the straps too. But do you know that these are the wrong ways of hanging your bra, why?
We all know that water has weight, hence the direction of the water flows and drips will sort of pulling your bra cup too. If you look closely on your bra, you will realize that the bra cup has already outspread and imagined if you wear it every day, your breast shape will slowly change according to the bra cup shape! As for the second way of hanging, it will pull your straps longer and longer and causing the straps to lose its elasticity.
The ideal way is to hang your bra upside down so that the water will drip naturally following gravity pull and hence, keep your bra cup in shape.
The best thing for bras is space, give bras room to breathe by having a dedicated drawer to store the bras. Don’t ever fold the bras in half, just stack them together with cups inside of each other to help them hold their shape.
